"definition": "From the sources\nPalindrome (al-qalb or mā lā yastaḥīlu bi-l-inʿikās) is an Arabic rhetorical device involving the reversal of the letters of a word or expression.[1][2][3] ʿAbd al-Ghanī al-Nābulusī defines the device as speech which, when reversed beginning from its final letter and proceeding to its first, yields the same speech again.[4] Al-Qazwīnī, in his al-Talkhīṣ, defined it as speech such that when its letters are reversed the reading does not change (idhā qulibat ḥurūfuhu lam tataghayyar qirāʾatuhu), with the further condition that the composition be well-formed and the meanings coherent.[3] This device occurs in both poetry and prose.[3][4]\nEncyclopedia Interpretation\nPalindrome overlaps with the paronomastic subtype jinās al-qalb, in which two words whose letters mirror each other appear together in a text.[5] In this encyclopedia, al-qalb is used for cases where the reversible unit constitutes a single continuous expression (lafẓ) — whether a single word or an unbroken phrase — such that the mirror image is contained within the expression itself. Cases where two mirror words are separated by intervening text are treated as a subtype of paronomasia and are covered under jinās al-qalb.",
