Rhetorical Device
An identifiable linguistic feature such as metaphor, simile, allegory or alliteration. More specifically, the Encyclopedia of Arabic Rhetoric's Model of Rhetorical Action defines a rhetorical device as "an identifiable linguistic mechanism that exploits a shared cognitive relationship between a communicator and an addressee to produce a rhetorical effect." There are currently 101 rhetorical devices of Arabic rhetoric catalogued at the Encyclopedia of Arabic Rhetoric.
