Sentence (jumla singular, jumal plural) is a grammatical unit that can stand independently as a complete statement, question, command, or other communicative construction. A sentence may contain one or more clauses.
The Arabic term jumla may refer to what English grammar describes as either a clause or a sentence. The two terms are therefore not exact equivalents.
